Omid Hybrid

Build

Engineer, after the run.

Omid Mirzaei, software engineer

I am a software engineer based in Athens. The work is mobile, web, crypto, and the unglamorous craft of shipping products. That is a real part of the person. It is not the headline of this site.

If you want the career record — Flutter, Web3, fintech, the things being built — that lives on the engineering site. Here, building is the other half of hybrid: hours at a keyboard, then back outside.

The guidelines already described the week

A desk is a sedentary behaviour problem before it is a brand problem. WHO’s 2020 guidelines, summarised in the BJSM paper, still ask adults for 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week, or 75–150 vigorous, plus muscle-strengthening on the major groups at least twice, and less sitting. Adults should limit sedentary time; replacing it with activity of any intensity — including light — has health benefits, and people who sit a lot are told to aim above the aerobic minimum (WHO, 2020; Bull et al., 2020). That is not a recruiter sentence. It is the public-health version of lift and go long. I do not need to invent a productivity study to justify leaving the chair.

The same guidelines did not pick a magic sitting-hour cutoff. The evidence was strong enough to say “sit less,” not precise enough to print a number everyone should hit. That is useful honesty. A watch that shames you for every hour at a laptop is not the same as a week that includes a run and a lift. I treat the chair as a default to interrupt, not as a personality.

Work changed. The week still needs two rooms.

ACSM’s 2025 survey of about 2,000 clinicians and practitioners put wearable technology at #1, mobile exercise apps at #2, and data-driven training at #7 — the same top ten as traditional strength training. Worksite health promotion, which had been #2 in 2024, fell out of the top twenty as hybrid and remote work scrambled how employers reach people (ACSM, 2025). If the office wellness program disappeared, the body did not. The week is still yours.

Strava said 54% of users now track more than one activity, and that Friday is the quietest training day on the platform (Strava, 2025). Walsh’s sleep consensus is the unglamorous pair to that calendar: athletes often undersleep, and performance moves with it (Walsh, 2021). I am not claiming their survey as my calendar. I am saying the culture already knows the week has two rooms, and that one of them has to be recovery if the other one is a keyboard.

Two homes, one person

The Guardian treated hybrid as fitter and stronger, not as a career pivot (The Guardian, 2026). o-mid.com is the engineering home. omidhybrid.com stays the athlete. Mixing recruiter copy into this page would recreate the problem the name is meant to solve: several niches forced together until none of them is true.

Perform. Build. Explore. The middle word is not a pivot. It is the quiet hours after the run. Then the trail again.
